Board members approved eight cost-share practices at the March 23 meeting, effectively excluding cattle from 17,350 feet of stream in Amelia and Prince Edward Counties. The stream exclusion practices are voluntarily implemented by producers with cost-share funding from the District. Cleaner water and healthier cattle will result in this partnership.
The Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is a non-profit, political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia operating primarily on a grant basis with funds from state and local governments. Piedmont SWCD provides technical and educational assistance for natural resource conservation to land users, farmers, foresters, homeowners, and local governments in Amelia, Nottoway, and Prince Edward Counties. Since 1939, the District has delivered voluntary, locally-led conservation solutions to natural resource concerns.
